Modelling

Our Modelling department is responsible for developing and maintaining Aurora’s in-house models that our subscription analytics, advisory, and software solutions rely upon.  Our Modellers, whilst primarily supporting Research, Advisory, & Software departments, can also act as technical experts in external calls and client enquiries, giving team members opportunities to interact with clients through our GMs and conferences. The modelling team’s reach is expansive, from collaborating with a UK government agency in modelling various decarbonisation pathways, to getting involved in North American initiatives in Texas that focus on new balancing and ancillary markets.

The Modelling team is a great fit for those who are adaptable, collaborative, analytical, and detail-oriented and are looking to use their quantitative and problem-solving abilities to build models that have a real impact on the energy transition. With us, you will gain experience with Python, GAMS, PowerBI, Git Version Control, and SQL while developing mathematical modelling, programming, and project management skills.

João Vilela

Senior Energy Modeller, São Paulo

Describe your key responsibilities.
Day-to-day, I build and execute modelling plans as we enter new power markets in Latin America. Alongside this, I manage a team of modellers focused on improving and maintaining our in-house models.

What is the highlight of your role?
I would say having the opportunity to work with curious people and lead complex projects that have a direct impact on how Aurora foresees the evolution of power markets across the globe.

What's the best thing about your team?
They are smart, curious, easy to work with, and they take modelling very seriously.

Reflect on what you like most about working at Aurora.
I like that I can do what I love and truly influence the most important industry in the world!

If you could capture the essence of Aurora in a word, what would it be?
Insightful—It is amazing to witness how many great insights the people at Aurora produce in so little time and, most importantly, how much clarity they bring to the energy transition.
